Group Meeting #1

Reflection: Majority of the groups seem to be doing thriller/ horror, no matter. though, as these groups gave me so much insight and films I could refer to for my film project. This group meeting helped me progress my overall plot. My group members also have some really nice ideas, however some do need improvement, as they focus on one thing for a bit too long. All in all this group meeting really sharpened my perspective on my film and other ideas like the editing aspect.

Plot: Not sure about idea yet, has a couple options. Like relaxing at his house after a long day of work and he goes about his day. He then gets a phone call from a mysterious person, once he answers the voice says, “YOU HAVE TO WAKE UP! WAKE UP NOW BEFORE...” and then the man wakes up.

Genre: Horror/Psychological Thriller 

As of Monday, my group does not know what we are going to do but we have some ideas and some films we are inspired by.  

Plot #1: One idea was a zombie apocalypse with 2 survivors in a forest running away from a monster on a dark, foggy night and they stop running after a couple seconds thinking they escaped. The 2 survivors start walking with the map they got of the park and then they suddenly hear the sound of something breaking but don’t think much of it. They suddenly hear a monster creeping up onto them and the scene would end with the zombie on top of the person about to eat them. 

Critique: -Gabe, minimal running. Running is boring, no one wants to see running. Terrible idea.

Plot: A godzilla inspired film, given by Stoklosa due to the fact that our group had no idea what to do. The setting takes place in a dark forest (Mark and park), story dynamic may be derived from Jurassic Park (T. Rex Escape scene) and how science will be humanities un-doing (Life finds a way) Take the new Jurassic world rebirth trailer for example, the new abnormality that is the main focus is a dinosaur called D-Rex/Deformed Rex (Image below) This can be a mirroring towards my film as my monster escapes from containment as scientists got too full of themselves and thought they had full control over the monster. (That is all the information as of now)

Title: Dear Diary; 

Plot: The main character is a girl who is very isolated and doesn't have a lot of friends, so when the last day of school ends, she goes directly home to find no one there either. During her car ride home, we want some non-diegetic music on the background and start the credit sequence until she goes into her room and closes the blinds, and the title appears. When the camera pans into the bed, the girl is going to be writing in her diary until her mom comes into her room and takes her out for some ice cream

Critique- Beatrice: I think your movie examples are good but maybe you should offer more analysis and responses with depth. This way you can learn more about how to use things and what to add into your opening.

-Plot: A girl gets cursed and is watched by a killer, she is trying to break the curse. The curse feeds on depression and can be broken with happiness and love. She is depressed because her mom passed away a while ago and ever since her dad has been taking out his anger on her, making their house unsafe and their relationship weak.

 Schedule February edition.

February 15th- Brainstorm project plot. discuss props and film a little bit.

February 16th- (Isn't exactly verified) But will probably go out to film once more, maybe even finish filming process due to inaccessibility to days we are both free.

February 28th- Final day for filming if all is not done by February 16th. Finish up editing, revise material, and possibly discuss some extra idea to be added to the post production.

Research:

This project created by Mesto, seemed to be their entire life's work and is literally about their life. 

The story originally revolved around queerness as its main theme. The discovery of my identity was difficult yet it stayed in second place among my concerns and those of my household. The family relationships should receive more focus than queerness in the story’s narrative. For a full-length film it would require additional time dedicated to portraying the other family members alongside a new format but this opening needs only basic changes.

The movie Moonlight tracks Chiron's life as it progresses through three distinct phases during his youth. The story segments its narrative across two parts yet every stop in Chiron's development spans limited periods amounting to days or weeks before time jumps forward through about ten years between intervals. The timeline in Mine wanders from one place to another while Incandescent covers an undefined period from the "early years." Keeping the timeline limited to a single period works better than attempting multiple timescales.

During the first two minutes of the film the Wide and Extreme Wide Shots establish the setting. A peaceful but magnificent mountain range rules over Ennis while Joe Aguirre's dim office stands out from the loud railroad that serves it. Ennis manages to seem tiny in comparison to other elements.

Found many inspirations, wants to look for films that center around a single character while developing a supporting group.

Research/analyze/discuss three credit sequences from films chosen genre (Thriller!)

 Jurassic Park

Research: The visual effects combined with music deliver an essence of wonder to viewers and make them feel thrilled yet worried by the unpredictable nature of dinosaurs. Throughout the end credits the film enhances its main messages about nature's awe-inspiring power along with the outcomes of human attempts to control it.

Analysis: The concluding credits of Jurassic Park are accompanied by the renowned musical score composed by John Williams. The soundtrack demonstrates both powerful happiness and peaceful examination to represent the intimidating but awe-inducing aspect of the park. The musical theme maintains an elevated pitch which showcases both the awe-inspiring quality of dinosaurs and the impressive dimensions of the park even though danger continue to loom.

Discuss: The movie uses the lack of a post-credits scene to provide a symbolic representation of the themes involving mental illness and social disintegration. Through this absence we understand that Arthur triggered an enduring chaos which extends into multiple realms of his society.

Joker Folie a deux

Research: The absence of post-credit scene enhances the disturbing feel of the film through its bleak tone. The unresolved tension at the end of the film mirrors Arthur's disruptive acts which have brought turmoil to the world.

Analysis: The end credits of Joker: Folie à Deux stand out because the film avoids adding a post-credits scene. The film concludes in a bleak manner when Fellowermint kills Arthur Fleck in prison. The dearth of both music and extra scenes causes viewers to remain nervous throughout the ending.

Discuss: People initiated conversations concerning how mental illness gets depicted in media while questioning the border between artistic freedom and ethical responsibility in art depiction. At the same time the film offers extensive insights into Arthur Fleck's psychological world while examining psychiatric conditions alongside social detachment from society.

28 Weeks Later

Research: The last credits of 28 Weeks Later display a haunting music score that amplifies the painful conclusion of the film. The music persists endlessly throughout the sequence as an expression of the Rage Virus's destructive path and the disaster that follows.

Analysis: The end credits generate a misfortunate and fearful sensation among viewers. Through music the film maintains its main themes of survival while portraying the never-ending nature of the virus to construct tension throughout the narrative.

Discuss: Throughout the film the deeply sad music score and visual imagery represent how the virus will not be stopped and its unstoppable spread. Throughout the closing credits the film predicts poor prospects and continuous viral hazards.

28 Weeks Later:

Research: Don, his wife Alice, and four other survivors take refuge in a cottage on the outskirts of London during the first Rage Virus outbreak[a]. Don opens their door when they hear a scared boy beating on it. They learn minutes later that the youngster has been followed by infected individuals. Don begs Alice to leave the boy, but she refuses, so he leaves them and makes his getaway on a boat, leaving Alice, the boy, and the other survivors likely dead.

Analyze: Examines issues such as the dissolution of society, the perils of unbridled military might, and the fight for survival against a highly contagious virus.

Discuss? Illustrating the brittleness of the recently established order and the capacity of human nature to degenerate into chaos when pushed to the limit, serving as a somber follow-up to "28 Days Later" in which the emphasis switches to the reconstruction efforts in a devastated London, only to be threatened by the resurgence of the infected.

Joker: Folie à Deux

Research: we learn Joker's shadow assumes his role to enact violent acts on the TV show stage before he leaves Joker to receive attacks from three police officers. Several critics have praised the movie for its ambition combined with emotional intelligence and meaningful thought contents. Various film critics indicate that Phoenix and Gaga deliver impressive performances within the movie. 

Analyze: The fantasy dance sequences with song received positive comments from certain movie critics.Several critics argue that the film becomes too gloomy while crossing into disturbing territory. Some movie reviewers describe the film as unfocused and uncoherent. The movie fails to provide essential Joker content as per critics' evaluation according to some observers. Additionally critics observe that the third segment of the movie perplexes viewers who cherished the original Joker film.

Discuss: Some viewers feel that the hasty finish to the film should have appeared sooner during its run. The film's terminal sequence makes viewers feel deep sorrow while sparking associations between the screen content and actual tragedies of 9/11 and Oklahoma City.

Jurassic Park

Research: confirms that Jurassic Park stands among the greatest films within the action thriller category. The movie represents a form of techno-thriller among other genre categories. The cinematic industry regards Jurassic Park as the film that set the precedent for modern visual effects using computer-generated images.

Analyze: On June 9, 1993, Jurassic Park received its debut screening at the Uptown Theater in Washington D.C. before having its nationwide United States release on June 11. The movie succeeded in becoming one of the biggest hits of all time by bringing in audiences totaling $914 million in the first run before Titanic held the record in 1997.

Discuss: The main group reacts intensely after witnessing real Parasaurolophus and Brachiosaurus. The visitor center teaches the group how scientists achieved cloning dinosaurs through the extraction of prehistoric mosquito DNA which was trapped in amber. Testing of frog DNA alongside other DNA material served to complete missing parts in the dinosaurs DNA sequence.
